COLONEL
EFFINGHAM’S RAID
1946 USA – 72 Minutes
Black & White – Comedy
Directed by Irving Pichel
Starring – Charles Coburn & Joan Bennett
Retired Colonel Effingham (Coburn) returns to his
hometown after a career in the service and finds
its being run by a city hall full of windbag politicians.
When the local political organization decides to
tear down the old courthouse in the town square
Colonel Effingham leads the charge to save the old
historic structure. Coburn plays his part to perfection
and is backed up by a zany group of comedic character
actors. In addition to being entertaining it makes
one think, as the Colonel clearly states, “A
community’s history is its family tree.”
