THE PERILS OF PAULINE
1947 USA – 96 Minutes
Technicolor – Romance
Directed by George Marshall
Starring Betty Hutton, John Lund, Billy De Wolfe,
& William Demarest
Betty Hutton a severely underrated superb star plays
the part of silent serial screen star Pearl White.
She moves from a sweat shop to a traveling repertory
company where she meets the star of the show Mike
Farrington (Lund) and falls in love. Unfortunately
for her he is a “cold fish”. Miss Hutton
works like a trooper in this romance to get her
man. After leaving the company she becomes a famous
silent screen star while Farrington’s star
begins to dim. Farrington’s ego and World
War I get in the way of their romance and all seems
doomed for the couple when fate steps in. Hutton’s
wonderful physical comedy, acting and singing is
a joy to watch.
